About the organisation and their occupational health requirements
Eque2 is a specialist cloud and software development business supporting the construction sector. Their teams focus on managing and developing software for estimating, housebuilding, maintenance and wider construction workflows, with most employees working in office-based roles.
Before joining Medigold Health Protect, Eque2 recognised the growing need for a more structured occupational health model. As a business committed to steady recruitment, they needed a service that could streamline pre-placement screening, ensure new joiners were fit for their roles, and provide clear, consistent clinical advice when managers required support with employee health concerns. Their priority was a smooth, reliable referral process and a proactive approach to workplace adjustments.
The challenge
Eque2 needed a solution that could help them:
- Strengthen pre-placement screening and ensure new starters were safe and supported from day one
- Manage clinical referrals efficiently and consistently
- Gain timely guidance on adjustments to help employees remain healthy, safe and productive
- Reduce sickness absence by addressing issues early
The Protect solution
With Protect, Eque2 gained a managed, end-to-end occupational health service able to assess fitness for work at the point of hire and identify any early adjustments that would help new employees thrive. Incoming staff complete a pre-placement health questionnaire before their start date, giving clinicians the information needed to recommend sensible, tailored support where required. This has helped Eque2 build a more confident, preventative approach to onboarding.
Alongside this, Eque2 make regular use of Protect’s management referral process. During their first year, referrals were submitted for a range of physical and mental health concerns. Because Protect’s clinical teams specialise in all aspects of workplace health, managers now receive clear, practical recommendations that help them act quickly and appropriately.
Referral volumes reduced in the second year, with mental health remaining the most common theme. The shift reflects the impact of better internal processes, earlier conversations and the availability of actionable clinical guidance.
Maximising the value of their Protect subscription
The impact of Protect has been significant. In their first year, 50% of employees referred to occupational health were deemed unfit to work at the time of assessment. By the second year, this had reduced to just 11%, thanks to earlier identification of issues and sensible workplace adjustments put in place at the right time.
In year two, 89% of referred employees were fit to work, with 33% needing only temporary adjustments and 56% fully fit. This demonstrates a clear improvement in outcomes and a more proactive internal culture around wellbeing.
The transition from their previous OH provider to Medigold Health Protect was completed smoothly, with no service interruption. As understanding of Protect has grown within the business, managers have become more confident, sickness absence has been prevented at an earlier stage, and internal processes have become more joined-up.
Their commitment to recruitment means placement questionnaire volumes remain high. Protect has supported this seamlessly, with 100% of new starters in the first subscription year deemed fit for work, and 26% receiving helpful recommendations or restrictions to ensure they were fully supported in their roles.
Why it’s worked
Eque2 has moved from a reactive model to a more confident, preventative approach to employee health. Protect has given them:
- Reliable, high-quality clinical advice when managers need it
- A smoother, more structured onboarding process
- Better sickness absence outcomes
- Earlier identification of potential issues and clearer recommendations
- A service they can scale easily as the business continues to grow
With a strong occupational health foundation now in place, Eque2 is well positioned to continue building a healthy, supported and productive workforce — and we look forward to supporting them on the next stage of their journey.
